When students have the basic supply needs met, they tend to do better academically in the classroom. I believe in restorative practices, and for that to begin we "the educators" need to make sure that our students have the tools necessary to be successful in and out of the classroom. All students are sometimes held back in their learning because their school supplies need is not being met. The school supplies requested are the basic tools needed for the students to use in order to succeed not just in my class but in other classes as well. Pencils, pens, markers, and the dry erase markers are various tools the students will use to write on the paper needed to take notes in order to study at home to do well on classroom examinations. Our classrooms consist of 25-32 students, and I will utilize the laser pointer by moving throughout the classroom in order to engage with the students instead of being restricted to the front of the classroom to point out interesting aspects on the board. Other school supplies requested were on their school supply list that the parents are unable to provide and would appreciate any assistance in obtaining these items in order for my students to succeed. Most of the students I teach are economically disadvantaged, and I don't want them worrying about school supplies, especially when some are unsure if they will get a hot meal for dinner.
