Books allow children to be immersed in a world that can be far away from their own reality. Reading a book as a class, which this project will allow us to do, helps students develop a deeper understanding of themes and ideas present. I have always had success with previous novel studies and feel it is an enriching opportunity within the classroom. The students love it, and so do I! Our school's theme this year is EMBRACING each others' DIFFERENCES through KINDNESS. Reading Wonder, which is based on a true story, will allow our children to connect to the characters and identify that we are all different and this will grow empathy, kindness, and compassion.
