Every year, my students' favorite projects are the ones where they get to paint. From the time the students first have art as 1st graders, they ask when they get to use the "real paint". Painting with acrylic on canvas is an experience that delights my students and is often reserved for our oldest of students. I have introduced painting into the 6th grade curriculum and am working with our 4th grade teachers to provide a cross-curricular community service painting project for our local Humane Society. These projects overlap with their other classwork as well as provide an exciting use of their existing art skills. The high-point of every student's career at our school is painting a ceiling tile at the end of their 8th grade year, which hangs permanently in the middle school ceilings. The paints in this project will go towards our 8th grade legacy project, our 4th grade community service auction paintings, and our 6th grade surrealism unit.
