Great writing inspires great writers. With these inspirational mentor texts, students will be able to learn about what great writers do, and to use these skills in their own work. Mentor texts are a fun and engaging way to introduce new skills. Chapter books that reflect the lives of children with diverse points of view help inspire children to share their stories as well. In our daily workshop, we focus on one or two things in our writing to develop. These books will be used to create a shared experience, a shared reference point for discussing our writing. Students will then practice adding these techniques to their own writing, experimenting with different approaches, and conferring with other writers in the class for feedback. This way they will be able to see themselves as writers and to build confidence and skill.
