In order to participate fully in school, students need the tools and skills to self-regulate, so they can be present, engaged and safe. An effective and impactful tool they can learn and integrate often and easily is breath and mindfulness practices Breath is the foundation of movement, and also is what resets our bodies ability to calm itself by creating new pathways in the brain. Research supports this practice and suggests that it can significantly reduce stress, anxiety, anger and irritability. By establishing a meditation cool down corner, students are encouraged to take breaks when necessary and focus on their breath in order to reset their minds and bodies. The pillows and meditation area will allow students to feel like they are true meditation practitioners, with agency in choosing which pillow to use, and when to use them.
