Students learn well in a classroom, but can you imagine the possibilities of hands-on experiences. With this grant, I would incorporate literature about plants, nature, insects, and animals to set a purpose to motivate students to begin a school garden. In our garden, students would use a garden hose to work with soil by planting seeds, weeding, investigating the life cycle of plants and insects, make decisions on watering, under watering, and work and study different types of soil to work with numerous vegetable plants or shrubs. Students would also be able to use a water hose to explore how sunlight passes through water droplets. Finally, students would practice science safety by using goggles and gloves. The activities are endless! Students can investigate many more topics such as nutrition, weather, insects, solar and wind power while creating an outdoor learning environment, and a beautiful school garden.
