My students are high-spirited, hard working 8th graders who have IEPs, with disabilities ranging from learning disabilities to intellectual disabilities. They value the importance of working hard to for their futures, but they need physical aspects within a room that can provide technology and visual aids for them. As students in a low-income community, they face challenges every day. However, they are ready to learn each time they walk through the door of our classroom that used to be the men's restroom. They are eager learners who are committed to their futures. Every time they come to math or writing, they share experiences where they find out they are learning the same thing as other students across the hall. They are out to prove they are just as smart as any other student in the 8th grade. They show me each day how hard and willing they are make more academic gains.
