Without the extra support of kind donors and people who truly care, homeless students have little hope of achieving a "normal" school experience. Providing them with the clothing, equipment, and materials they need to be able to participate in after-school clubs and athletic teams enables them to fully participate in the whole educational community along with their peers.
Opportunities to participate in extra- and co-curricular activities helps provide students with stable, positive environments beyond the regular school day. They are better able to develop meaningful connections with adult sponsors and coaches as well as social connections with other students with similar interests. Participation in these activities promotes positive self-esteem and a sense of belonging that may not exist otherwise.
We know that these opportunities and connections are extremely instrumental in promoting academic success. Helping children and youthfully engage in all facets of the learning community creates hope.
