My students have knowledge in areas related to theater except for in the creation and sewing of their own costumes. By purchasing sewing machines, dress forms, and some basic sewing supplies, students will have the opportunity to add to their repertoire of skills. Given the opportunity, students will be able to learn how to create a costume from start to finish. Some students have talents that lie in the background and creation of costumes is of interest to several of my students. We currently have no sewing machines and materials to use and must pull costumes from pieces we already have or find them from thrift stores. Purchasing ready-made costumes can sometimes be outside of the budget and by having these supplies, students will be able to learn a new skill they can use beyond the walls of theater.
