Have you ever heard of a Bucket Band? Almost every child I know will drum on something! Most first percussive instruments are the pots and pans in the pantry at home. It's a primeval thing built into all of us. The drum was the first instrument in every culture. The collecting buckets turned upside down are the perfect size and drumsticks are more fun and realistic for my upper classes than lummi sticks. With a bucket band, using drum sticks, my students will learn to read music, play music in unison, two part and three parts. They can experiment with different tones and sounds by changing where they drum - the top, rim, or side. The sound textures are very different! They love to drum! It will be the start for band, orchestra and chorus. And drum sticks! Drum sticks rock! A creative way to learn 'tah tah titi tah'! (And easier and more fun to remember!)
