I proudly teach six English 10 classes at the Historic Dunbar High School, which was founded in 1870 as the first high school for African-Americans in the United States. Over the course of the year, students learn how to analyze complex texts, compose personal narratives, write critical essays, and communicate with peers and adults. Each student I teach is a "Dunbar Diamond." My students shine bright; they develop under pressure and persevere through challenges in order to transform into sparkling, successful diamonds. I consider my classroom more like a home, and I make sure it's a welcoming space that supports all the incredible moments we experience together.
