These five tablets will enable students to access online lessons provided by teachers. It will enable students to work collaboratively through the district-provided wi-fi using Microsoft One Drive. Students will be able to participate in virtual field trips and improve reading skills. It will allow them to learn digital citizenship and give each student a chance to become global learners. They will also be able to access online textbooks, different online learning programs, and create authentic projects together. Engaging my ELA students by teaching with technology is something that I challenge myself to do every year. It is often assumed that every teenager has a cell phone or tablet, but that is unfortunately not the case. For one reason or another, a student may not have a device. This can lead to an equitability issue within our public school system. The bar for public education has been raised. No longer is it sufficient to have a textbook for every student, supplies for every student, even meals for every student. In today's fast past technological society, if a student does not have access to information online, they will be left behind. They will be left behind by teachers, future employers, and post-secondary institutions. Not providing students with online access, is not providing them a proper education in the 21st century. Having tablets in my classroom offers students an economical way to become part of an online global learning environment. Students will be able to create, critique, and communicate as they learn their content. They will be able to stay connected and engaged in their learning process. By teaching students how to use these tablets, I am able to increase their usage of online tools (Google Classroom), students will be able to see that the possibilities and opportunities are endless!
