The 'BestBookStand Nice Production INP-101-O Book Stand' would improve student focus in the text and ease of reading--fixing their posture and improving the readability of their books. Students that have used this type of stand in the past with me enjoy being able to be comfortable and then focus on other parts of their reading. Each reader will get a stand. There are two groups of 6 readers in my building.
Readers who come to us in 5th and 6th grade have already felt defeated, distraught, and unsuccessful at reading. Much of what we do is to help build up that identity. Some of this identity is that they do not see themselves as readers. If we can improve their comfort, posture, and readability (how they visually see a book) for the students, that takes away one of the stressors that they are feeling. This also gives them a tool to help them be successful and feel successful--another step in building up these students’ reading identities. If students see themselves as readers, they are more likely in the mindset to work hard and fix the areas that I can help teach, prompt and reinforce. The BestBookStand would be a welcome addition to my reading tables.
