As a special education teacher in my school's learning center, I have the privilege to work with students from all different backgrounds in grades k-5! My students are bright, hard-working individuals who require individualized instruction in reading, writing, and/or math. We work in small groups to target areas and specific skills that we can strengthen so that they can be successful in the general education classroom and most importantly, in life. We work on strategies to improve reading fluency and comprehension, sentence fluency in writing, identifying main idea and details and incorporating them into their writing, math fact fluency and computation, and so much more! My students are eager to learn, however they are sometimes intimated by the skills we work on. I aim to not only strengthen their academic skills, but to also foster their confidence in themselves as more than capable learners.
