With the new school year approaching and enrollment changing, there was a need for an additional STARS (skills training and autism related services) self-contained classroom. I am the lucky one chosen to make a difference in these special students' lives. However, I am walking into a fairly empty classroom and, coming from general education, I have very little to set up the classroom to meet the needs of my students. We need wobble stools, stability ball chairs, sensory fidgets, lap desks, area rugs and other supplies to meet the sensory needs of students. Students with autism often have unique needs, and I am hoping to have an amazing classroom full of items to meet those needs and encourage learning. I'm am looking to stock the classroom full of flexible seating arrangements and learning stations.
