I want to provide my mainstreamed high school students with significant hearing loss with alarm clocks for deaf and hard of hearing individuals. With the students in high school, we are focusing on advocacy and compensatory skills. I want them to become independent and aware of the resources available for individuals with hearing loss. While this might seem like an alarm clock will not have a major impact, it will awaken my students in more ways than one! First, it will encourage them to take on more responsibilities and increase their independence. Many rely on their parents to wake them up because they cannot hear their alarms. Additionally, it is a practical way of introducing my students to technology that is available to them. Finally, I just want to make sure they are all getting to school on time!
