Honeybees are very important for us, providing food and providing food for wildlife. Beekeeping can be a unique way for students to escape the traditional learning environment yet still learn a lot of information. The humming of bees when you open a hive is very relaxing, and an escape from the norm. Honeybees are AMAZING social insects. Learning the different roles of social insect and how they all work together are great concepts for students. Bees can be incorporated into the 8th grade science curriculum through the environment unit, chemical impact unit, and food chains unit. In addition, I want to start a beekeeping club.
