Students will read and be read amazing books of all sorts: fiction, non-fiction, historical and character shaping tales as they discover worldy connections through literature! For example, reading the book, "If I Ran for President," students will learn about the election process, respond to writing with their own platform of why they would make a good classroom president, create a campaign slogan for themselves, and participate in the electorial process though a classroom election. These books will enhance my classroom library and expose my students to award-winning literature. Students will utilize the books to make text connections to themselves and the world around them while mastering the art of true comprehension. They will utilize the authors story elements to recount key details, detemine main ideas, describe sequencial stages, interpret information, and ask and answer questions based on the literature. Students will learn first hand to read and comprehend grade level literature with purpose and understanding. Through the books provided the class will engage in range of collaborative disscussions and participate in inquiry based projects!
