Read aloud is a truly special time in fourth grade at my school. All three teachers focus on the same book. The teachers read aloud and each student has their own copy of the book to follow along in. In this way, we can expose our students to engaging stories, characters, and text that they would not be able to access independently. We keep our book sets year to year so this purchase would positively impact literally hundreds of students in the future. We like to focus on books that help with our students’ social-emotional education and focus on themes such as friendship. While academics standards are very important, we are most concerned about our kids’ well-being and how they treat others. Wonder is an incredible book that will help us lead important conversations and help us all learn the lesson that kindness is cool.
