Remember the book that made you feel as if the author was writing about you? That he knew you, and understood your life and how difficult it was just staying alive? My kids are still looking for that book... I teach English Literature to 11th and 12th grade kids who struggle with money, drugs, gangs, and all their attendant difficulties-which makes reading pretty low on their priority list... In the past, Donor's Choose had helped me make literature come alive for my kids-so much so that the most popular novels funded (Catcher in the Rye and In Cold Blood)have not only been read/discussed/written about/analyzed/enjoyed, they have been kept-and for self-confessed "non-readers" to want to own a book, to be able to return to it and re-read favorite passages, well, this is HUGE. Thank you for taking the time to consider my kids.
