“Mindfulness is a powerful tool that supports children in calming themselves, focusing their attention, and interacting effectively with others, all critical skills for functioning well in school and in life.” The products that I've selected will allow me to create a space in my room for our girls to practice mindfulness whenever they want. The bookcases will be used to hold the salt lamp, air diffuser, plants, and literature on mindfulness. These supplies help create a peaceful ambiance that will make the Mindfulness Corner important and different from any other space on campus. An important part of mindfulness is being comfortable enough to relax. I already have a few yoga mats so the posture seats are for our girls that want to improve their posture and the rug is for those that feel more relaxed lying on the ground. If we are going to push our girls to do the unimaginable, we need to provide them with the support that will help them accomplish their goals. I believe that practicing mindfulness is one of the ways that we can do that. "Mindfulness strengthens some underlying development processes—such as focus, resilience, and self-soothing—that will help kids in the long run." I want the Mindfulness Corner to serve as a safe space for our girls to stay grounded, positive, and motivated as they matriculate through middle and high school.
