I teach Spanish in the Dual Language Program at my school for first grade. My students learn reading and comprehension strategies in small groups at a table. Having a half-moon table for reading is important to engage students and create a positive learning environment. This table allows students to sit in their own space, but also see and hear other students at the table. I will use it to meet with my students for guided reading, phonics, math and writing instruction. One of the most beneficial parts of this table is how I can easily work one-on-one with any student at any time. We currently don't have a table like this and so we are meeting in a rectangle table which is not ideal for guided reading. This is perfect for doing quick assessments, checking comprehension, or listening to students read. Students will be able to focus on the lesson and they are all facing the teacher. Spanish Guided Reading is one of the most important time of the day in first grade. Not only can we use it for guided reading, but we will also be able to use it for center work, independent reading time, and group project work. This simple piece of furniture would make such an amazing impact on my class. Help us become Stronger Readers in Spanish this year!
