Since March 2020, my students have been remote learning and have not had the same access to socialization as they do in the physical classroom setting. For the start of the new school year, my classroom is mapped to be returning to school at some capacity. With health and safety in mind, I plan to create structured and supervised play stations that allow the students to interact with each other through the use of these materials. The grades K-1 are a monumental time in child development for socialization. In addition, the disabilities of my students impact their typical social development. In order to create situations of cooperative play for my students, I need to use tactics with my students such as modeling, scripting, reviewing social stories, and other methods to make the activity functional for the student. These materials will enhance the learning experiences of my students who have not had access to toys and peers for months.
