Our school has an embedded Creative Art-Technology-Science (CATS) curriculum built in to their weekly schedule to enrich our students' learning. As a general ed teacher and one of the primary Creative Arts teachers for our CATS program, I am looking for ways to add to their art experience. In addition, there are components to the Common Core State Standards that are greatly enriched by the integration of visual arts. For example, students can illustrate favorite characters or events from stories heard and read. In math, they can paint story problems. In the content area of science, they can paint animals in their natural environment. These are just a few of the many examples of how my students would benefit from having an art easel.
