My students are eager to learn and full of potential. Many are from Russia, Somalia, Turkey, Burma, Mexico, among other countries. Often their families do not speak English at home, and most are low income. This creates unique challenges that are often difficult to overcome. The school they attend is designated as a high poverty school, and the teachers strive to create a safe, comfortable learning environment for every student. The students in my class are motivated to learn but often face challenges most native English speaking families don't. For instance, learning how to say (much less write) a full complete sentence can be extremely difficult when you are not exposed to English at home after school or the entire summer.
