My school is a dual-language school in the Houston southeast area. Dual language here means we must color code to differ the languages from one another. My classroom is a self-contained English and Spanish classroom with a 50-50 model of instruction, meaning 50% English and 50% Spanish learning and teaching. Spanish should have red ink and English should have blue in a dual language school in the district. Unfortunately, many things are only printed in black and white or have to be printed at home. Having a color printer at school and paper to use with it would allow my students to have access to more colorful and rigorous resources. Having the printer in the classroom would allow the students to print and publish their writing and other work. Pictures that help with their cross-linguistic connections between the languages would also be printed to make connections. Helping our project be funded would make our classroom more inviting, student-friendly, and interactive by having work and important language keys displayed. Students would feel more ownership of the classroom and feel it to be a safe and great place to learn in.
