My students will be returning to the building in the fall and I am so excited for their return! Last year, our school opened up a hybrid model, and about half of the kids who will be my 7th graders have not yet been into the middle school building. For example, comfortable seating with washable covers, sets of writing and drawing supplies, decor, and comfortable lighting will all help me create the best possible environment. I need to make sure I'm able to meet them where they are and provide comfort and safety. I want to be as prepared as possible to welcome these kiddos into a safe, comforting, and exciting environment as they delve further into their middle school years. For example, these materials will help me provide an alternative to the harsh fluorescent lights and give my alternative seating a much-needed restoration. I also like to include hands-on art projects that help the kids interact with our reading and get creative. This will help me replenish those supplies so that the students have plenty of options and are able to maintain safe practices.
