A classroom is the students' home away from home. The goal for this project is to obtain the leftover necessities my wonderful fourth grade class has been missing to achieve engaging and effective lessons each and every day. I have carefully selected each item to bring the most impact to my students' academic, physical, and social/emotional well-being. In a school where a majority of students are coming from disadvantaged backgrounds and home-lives, there is not a minute to waste when considering precious instructional time! The plastic sterilite drawers (my most expensive item(s) requested) will organize group/community supplies to allow for quick and seamless transitions as we move from different subject areas throughout the day. Since my students have individual desks where they are expected to store all of their books and supplies, having a designated communal space for group materials will be a HUGE time-saver! The next big-ticket item in my project is a class set of privacy boards for test-taking opportunities to prevent wandering eyes. ANY elementary school teacher would tell you these are SO useful in the classroom! The remainder of my requested items consist of sports equipment for PE/recess (#WorkHardPlayHard), durable sheet protectors to act as whiteboards (#ProveYourThinking), stackable stools and carpet sit spots (#FlexibleSeating #AreaRugsAreExpensive), and lastly an awesome children's book 'All Are Welcome' to reaffirm my teaching policy: each child, no matter their cultural or socioeconomic background, has a right to a quality education. #AchievementGap #EdEquity Please help me and our school continue to meet the diverse needs of my awesome fourth graders!
