This scale will be used throughout the entire school year for inquiry-based labs where small but precise amount of substances need to be used. Having this level of precision will allow students to not only explore through laboratory practices, but then also use their data to perform calculations and develop their understanding of scientific concepts with accuracy. Students will begin the year by exploring a murder mystery through performing a bullet analysis similar to CSI. Students will each be given a bullet casing to analysis and must use this balance and spectroscopy to accurately determine the percent composition of copper in the bullet casing, allowing them to determine the specific manufacturer of the casing. This is just one example of an exciting lab that will use this scale in the coming year, and all of these labs will help expand the lab skills and knowledge of my students.
