As we prepare students for the future world, we want them to be able to use the tools that they will need to use. Computers are available in our school but are shared among the whole community, and because of constant testing, they are often unavailable. Our students come from working class families where the majority are not able to provide technological devices for their students.
My goal is to open the world of my students, learning language and culture but also giving them skills that they will need to succeed at any job- proper research and technological abilities- by incorporating chrome books into our curriculum. Just because our students have lived in the age of technology does not mean that they know how to properly use it. I plan to use the chrome books for research (discussing primary and secondary sources), for communicating with students in other countries in our target language, and for building a portfolio of their work so that they can show others what they are capable of! With what our school offers, it is impossible to do this; we simply do not have enough devices.
