Students will read Rick Riordan’s "Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief" which is about a sixth-grade boy who finds out he is the son of a Greek god. Percy is a character that is easy to relate to, and students love Rick Riordan's humor. They are always exited to read the next chapter! Students will focus on close reading and make connections to the hero's journey by using text-based evidence. Students will build vocabulary and routines and learn to work in small groups. We will link the story to other Greek mythology, and in the end, write our own hero's journey.
