Literacy education is undoubtedly one of the most important aspects of a child's education. Students learn in a variety of ways, but I have found that art projects allow students to connect with stories that we read in an engaging and effective way. Encouraging literacy skills through creativity allows students to experience books that we read together in a hands on and creative way, which leads to greater comprehension of texts. In order to do this I am requesting multicultural crayons, markers, chart paper, storybook paper and notebooks for students to creatively write about stories that we are reading. Additionally, I am requesting water color paints, tempera paint, paintbrushes, glue and tissue paper to utilize collaborative art projects for students to complete after reading some of our favorite story books.
