Flexible seating encourages students to find their best spot to stay calm, focused and productive. During independent work times they will be able to choose a location in the classroom that works for them. In my mind this is a great way to support a student centered classroom. Currently my students only have a couple of flexible seating options around the room. Unfortunately, that means everyone does not get a seating choice. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them, and I have noticed my students making better choices because they want one of the coveted seating options. My students are more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they are given a choice of where to work. The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices. The bistro table will allow students to gather in groups and plan projects. This will be extremely beneficial because in fifth grade we have several hands on projects planned. The reading bench will be a great place for the kids to kick back and read a book. While the lap desks will give students an extra surface to use their Chromebooks in any location they choose. Many of my students come from backgrounds where choices are made for them. My hope is that a student centered classroom which fosters choice will help my students grow. Ultimately, cultivating a desire to live a choice filled life.
