Although I have many years in the classroom, this is my first year teaching kindergarten, so it's similar to starting over. My students need the listening center to use to help them build fluency and become life long readers. We will use our listening center daily during out Center Time. This will give students a chance to instill the objectives taught, such as what the title of the book is, finding the author's name, and reading from left to write, on their own. These are things that they will need as life long learners. I have also chosen some popular picture books to go along with the listening center. Using popular books that my students have heard of, will likely peak their interest and make them want to read more. For many of my students, this is their first exposure to literacy. They will build on their knowledge throughout the year using a variety of books through the listening center.
