The NYCDOE has not yet solidified a plan about what the fall will look like for our students, but one thing seems certain: students will need to have access to reliable technology within and outside of the school building. A large percentage of our students did not have access to laptops or wifi at home, impacting our most vulnerable students. While the teachers at our school work tirelessly during school hours, after school hours, over the weekends and holidays, without student access to the proper technology needed to succeed, the achievement gap our students face will grow wider and students will be in real danger of falling behind. In order to meet the needs of all of our students, our school community is working together to secure access to technology that students need to succeed in any setting, whether we will be in school full time, participating in a blending learning model, or will be learning remotely. Students need access to these laptops in order to effectively meet the needs of all types of learners in our school this school year, and many school years to come! They will be able to use these laptops to access their assignments on google classroom, iReady, conduct group research projects, inquiry-based learning projects, formative and summative assessments, data analysis, virtual field trips, virtual science labs, experiments and dissections. Additionally, students will be able to further explore topics that they are interested, passionate and curious about. Above all else, having access to these Chromebook laptops will enable students to gain technology skills they need to be successful in all content areas and will also allow them to strengthen skills needed for college are career readiness.
