Flexible seating allows students to take charge and ownership of their learning. With the ability to make a choice to work in an environment that works best for them, they are able to communicate collaboratively while fostering creativity and critical thinking skills. In working with my diverse group of students last year, I realized quickly that the ability of choice and the environment that they were able to work in made a world of difference. At the beginning of last year, I only had traditional desks and the floor as optional work spaces for my students. It did not take long to realize that this created a limited environment for my diverse learners, and I knew that something had to change. When I started to create more options for my students, I saw an amazing difference in their cooperation towards one another and their focusing ability. More importantly, there was a noticeable increase in their educational drive when they were given a choice of where to sit in a work environment that was best for them. This year, I was able to switch to tables instead of traditional desks, and the products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices. The WOBBLE Chairs are adjustable and will allow students to sit at desk/higher tables but will still allow some movement. These will be extremely beneficial for some students that just need to get the wiggles out! In addition, the Gaiaim Yoga Balls will offer my students a sense of movement and stimulation while doing their work to help them focus and process information. I have seen how choice can positively affect my students work and demeanor and hope that the additional options will help us grow even more!
