Our students are from a very diverse community. The majority of our students come from low income families whose parents often times struggle to meet their daily needs. We provide universal free breakfast and lunches to our students to ensure they are eating at least two healthy meals during the school day. They are quite inquisitive and eager to learn new things. I polled our students and was amazed at how many want to participate in our future Chess Club. What a great way to build positive relationships with one another and reward all students with the opportunity to learn something new and exciting! Some of our students already know how to play the game of chess while others yearn to understand how this game is played. However; we only have one chess board available and it is missing some pieces. My dream is to create a Chess Club and have at least ten chess boards with clocks so that these students can learn to play and compete against one another. This will be an inspiring way to reward our students for good behavior and great academic standing.
