Throughout each and every day, we come together not just as a class but as a community. We start many of our lessons together as a group and often break up into smaller groups to allow me to better meet the needs of my very diverse learners. When we are together though, the sense of community that is instilled and fostered is key to helping my students understand their purpose, take pride in their work as well as their environment, and to motivate them to do their best. Currently we have only one small rug that doesn’t fit us all leading some students to remain in their chairs. This disrupts focus and takes away from the feeling of togetherness. Having a rug large enough to accommodate all of us would transform our whole group learning and really bring us together.
