Research has shown that for many children (and adults) it is beneficial to make use of small "fidget" objects during instructional time. These items keep hands busy and minds free to pay attention. Rather than ask students to remain still for extended periods of time, a task that can be difficult even for adults, approved fidgets are given to students to allow for a class appropriate and monitored system of movement. On my list, I chose simple items such as small spring toys, pipe cleaners, fidget snakes, and squishy toys. These things will keep little fingers busy but don't make excessive noise which could potentially disrupt the class.
