Analyzing real-life data with appropriate tools is a key ability to apply mathematics; scientific calculators are one of the essential tools for developing this problem-solving ability. While developing number sense with "mental math" is important, high school students need to see and work with real-life phenomena such as exponential growth, which is NEVER simple numbers to calculate in one's head, to become interested in and willing to apply what they learn in a math classroom. These calculators are basic tools to keep up their enthusiasm.
