One of the goals I have had with my native Spanish speaking students for the past 2 years has been to get them to read and actually enjoy it! Research shows that reading is the best way to increase your vocabulary and writing skills. These native Spanish speakers have grown up hearing and possibly speaking the language but struggle to write it and read. I believe that in providing my students with books at a variety of levels related to a very relevant theme, immigration, my students' reading scores (and other scores) will increase dramatically! Our key theme in this course is immigration from a variety of Spanish speaking countries, and this library would give students choice in how much they challenge themselves and the specific country that they wish to read about.
