I am requesting basic classroom supplies for my students to use throughout the coming year and in years to come. Being a first year teacher, I'm just beginning to build my teacher supply stock. In my hunt for the best deals on school supplies, I've been reminded how expensive they can be. My goal as a teacher is to ensure every child feels comfortable and supported in my room, and being 7 years old it can be hard to feel comfortable when you're worried about not having a pencil. Having community supplies in our room will help alleviate anxiety many students feel about not having personal supplies from home. I want to have enough scissors, markers, crayons, and glue sticks for everyone in our class to do projects together as a whole group. Students will also need writing binders and book bags. Binders will be used to organize tools and drafts throughout a busy year of writing. Book bags will be used to organize student materials for reading groups. This will help timing and transitions between each group. I'm also requesting general classroom tools such as chart paper, privacy perforators, and an electric pencil sharpener. Chart paper will be used in most lessons to create anchor charts with students that will later be hung as references. Privacy perforators provide a small "office" for students to use while testing. This not only eliminates the potential for wandering eyes, but also helps students focus as it blocks out distractions around the room. As for the pencil sharpener, has anyone ever actually successfully used one of the wall sharpeners without shredding half of the pencil? I hope to use the sharpener to have a stock of sharpened pencils to grab-and-go. This will eliminate the noisy pencil sharpener distracting others from their learning.
