At our school, we have clubs that teachers are responsible for running. I run the garden club. The club meets monthly with about 25 members. That is not the only purpose of this garden. It is also used as a form of therapy. It is a place were students feel safe and are at peace. While gardening with the children, you are able to connect with them in a more personal level. I am a special education teacher and will frequently use gardening as a reward for positive behavior. Gardening is what children choose as their reward; not playing indoors or on their computer- they want to garden.
