Everyone knows hands-on experience is one of the best ways to learn. The products I picked from Lakeshore are all about motion and force, a Next Generation Science Standard for kindergarten. Ramps, interlocking gears, and balls will all be explored as students create their own structures to experiment with. Students will experiment about the concepts of force, motion, pushing, and pulling as they are able to make virtually endless variations with the materials. Besides the hands-on kits, the book set about motion will also tie in nicely as a resource to use while I am teaching this unit. The vocabulary and photographs in the books will further help my English language learners to apply academic language during the unit, too. Another reason these kits are so great is students will work in small groups. Not only are they learning about science but they also work on social skills like sharing, cooperating, and problem solving together.
