My students need to move and they need tables and chairs that match this need. Additionally, most of my students are tall and need seating that can accommodate long legs. The tables and stools also provide a learning opportunity. They will assemble the furniture and write a reflection on how well they followed the directions and how they worked with others, paying attention to what worked well and what did not. Directions for DIY furniture usually are image-based and they will write a how-to paper to explain the visual instructions. This hands-on assignment helps meet English standards for informational text.
