Reading about STEM or any science related topic, is reading informational text. My middle school students struggle tremendously in this category for standardized testing. Science World shows students the interconnected nature of science by relating each exciting topic to biology, chemistry, physics, earth science and engineering. I want them to excel in all aspects of their science academia career, especially as they matriculate to high school. I can continue to support them even more by bringing these magazines into our science class to reinforce NGSS content with an ELA resource. They allow me as a teacher to differentiate any particular reading skill, but still have them immersed in reading about science.
