This year, in addition to spending most of the school day with my own homeroom class, I will also be teaching an 80-minute block of ELA/Reading to a second section of students. Therefore, this project will benefit two classes of students this year, as well as classes for years to come. Flexible seating provides students with options and empowers them to choose a “smart” spot in which they will learn best. Options such as yoga balls, bouncy bands, and stability discs allow for movement throughout the school day, increasing oxygen flow to the brain, blood flow, and core strength. It also helps students to remain more alert and focused, resulting in higher degrees of success within the classroom. Lastly but certainly not least, flexible seating creates a fun and engaging learning environment that students enjoy being in. I always want my students to look forward to coming to school each day, and I truly believe that a flexible classroom will help me achieve this goal.
