The students dissect worms examining, and analyzing the digestive system including: the esophagus, pharynx, crop, gizzard, digestive tract and anus. They are always amazed at how much dirt is inside. Their intrigue continues as they examine the circulatory system searching for the five hearts and blood vessels. Yep worms have blood! Even though the worm's brain is small it can be found too. Finally they locate the seminal vesicles and seminal receptacles to gain understanding of organisms that are hermaphrodites. Finally they will diagram the systems and color code each on a model drawing. Then explain how each of these systems aid in the organism's survival referencing the seven characteristics of living things.
