I believe that students learn by doing. Students will work in partnerships to build two and three dimensional shapes with the magnetic blocks and self-stick easel pads. By working together and building mathematicians understand geometric patterns. When they build shapes they understand patterns, sides, faces and vertices in shapes. We will also use shapes to explore and make fractions. Fractions must be introduced using equivalent fractions. Young children need to build and see shapes to understand geometric concepts. Mathematics education is aimed at children being able to make connections between mathematics and their daily environment. Acquiring basic skills, understanding simple mathematical language and applying it in practical situations. Reflecting on their own mathematical activities and checking results. Searching for simple connections, rules, patterns and structures. Describing investigative and reasoning strategies in their own words and using these strategies.
