According to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, beginning in kindergarten, students should be able to, "display, explain, and justify mathematical ideas and arguments using precise mathematical language in written or oral communication." Children who struggle with math have a hard time expressing what their struggles are and how they can be helped to overcome those struggles. When a classmate shares how they solved a problem and can demonstrate the steps taken, it becomes doable for the struggling students and motivates them to continue. The materials for this project will help students collaborate and learn together.
